I am furious with my government. How is this happening in New Orleans? We can send troops to Iraq but we can't restore order in our own country after a hurricane? All the president can say is that looters will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Gee. Thanks. That shows that you're really understanding of the desperateness of their situation. Wheel and deal punishment later. For now, assuage the fears and stop the terror in a city that is a national treasure (even though most lame ass Americans only want to think of it as a place to party). God, I'm so angry!
The National Guard halted evacuations at the hospitals yesterday after being fired on (reminder: these are flooded hospitals with NO power, NO generators, corpses rotting in the staircases). Halted. Not, changed tactics. Or, came up with another plan. Just halted. So, volunteers in boats began to evacuate patients. These are regular people - not with combat training or weaponry or supposedly the most advanced communication equipment available, just regular everyday people. And you know what else really burns me up? All the rescue centers are within blocks of the downed hospitals and the nightmarish convention center. Blocks.
On the inside, I'm screaming. And mourning for this city I hold so dear. My typing can't capture it this morning. It's all I can do not to ram the car in front of me with its "W04" sticker blazing on the bumper. This lousy president can't handle this. He is failing miserably at being a leader. And New Orleans is suffering mightily because of it. God damn him.
